The Western Pennsylvania Cancer Institute is a nationally recognized provider of advanced treatment programs for patients with blood related disorders and was one of just 35 centers nationwide to be recognized as a Center of Excellence by the Myelodysplastic Syndromes Foundation in 2001.

There is a multi-disciplinary approach with state of the art services including clinical trials, educational resources, community support, social services as well as specialists in stem cell transplant, hemostasis and thrombosis oncologists, pathologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and oncology nurses. 

The team participates in a variety of oncological services including cutting edge treatment options and specialized nursing care for symptom management. New treatment approaches and drug therapies are available for patients with acute and chronic leukemias, myelodysplastic syndromes, Hodgkin disease, lymphoma, myeloma, and related disorders. to help improve patient's responses to chemotherapy, stimulate the patient's immune system, and promote the manufacturing of normal blood cells.
