Head and Neck Cancer Care and Services at WPAHS
Head and neck tumors affect 55,000 American each year. These tumors are located in the skull base, sinuses, orbits, oropharynx, nasopharynx, oral cavity, pharynx (throat), larynx (voice box), parotid, and thyroid.
The WPAHS encompasses a multidisciplinary approach to patient care including head and neck surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and radiologists. These physicians discuss and define the optimum form of treatment for each patient. Inclusive in our treatment protocols are and advanced and experimental organ preservation techniques, along with advanced reconstructive procedures following tumor removal.
We have a fully working tumor board that encompasses a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Each patient is presented to the tumor board, which includes medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, head and neck surgeons, and radiologists. These physicians discuss and define the optimum form of treatment for each patient. Our team of surgeons and oncologists is committed to providing leading-edge care to each patient, with an emphasis on laryngeal preservation and optimal throat function. The balance of eradicating the cancer while preserving function and quality of life is the goal in every treatment plan.
Pre-treatment evaluation is assisted by specially trained radiologists to accurately stage the tumor and detect early diseases. Surgical management ranges from removal of small tumors with laser to advanced dissection surgeries with advanced reconstructive techniques. Post-operative care includes team of medical and radiation oncologists along with speech and nutritional services
